Moving Money Between Accounts
Use Move money when money moves between accounts owned by the same business. A transfer changes where the business keeps money; it does not create income or an expense.
For example, moving $1,000 from business checking to business savings reduces checking by $1,000 and increases savings by $1,000. The business has not earned or spent another $1,000.
Between bank and cash accounts
Open Add transaction, choose Move money, then choose Between bank/cash accounts. Enter the amount and date, choose the account the money came From, and choose the account it went To. The two accounts must be different active bank or cash accounts.
Paying a business credit card
Move money also contains the specialized Pay a credit card choice. Enter the payment amount and date, choose the bank or cash account it was Paid from, and choose the business credit card it was Paid to.
The card payment reduces cash and the amount owed. The expense should already have been recorded when the card was used for a business purchase. See Recording Credit Card Payments.
Do not use Move money for owner contributions, owner withdrawals, or loan proceeds and payments. Those have their own workflows so Trio Ledger can keep income, expenses, owner activity, and amounts owed clear.
